Biennial of Illustration 2018: 23 October – 10 November
Bulgarian Illustration and Sofia Library organize the first edition of the long-forgotten Biennial of Illustration. The exhibition of 104 illustrations opens at 6 p.m. on 23 October on the occasion of the library’s 90th anniversary.
The works were chosen from over 300 entries submitted by famous and unknown Bulgarian illustrators from the country and abroad and are complimented by masters’ works from the first 1968 Biennial of Illustration including Borislav Stoev, Evgeny Bosyatski, Alexander Denkov, Liuben Dimanov, Ivan Kyosev, Liuben Zidarov, Ivan Kirkov and many others.
At the official opening, three illustrators will be awarded with easel sculptures of the young sculptor Iliya Boyarov in the ‘Realized Work’, ‘Unrealized Work’ and ‘Lifetime Achievement’ categories. The jury members who will award the winners are Gergana Dimitrova – founder and editor-in-chief of List publishing house, Hristina Grozdanova – curator of Sofia History Museum, Nikoleta Gologanova – art specialist with Sofia Library, and Milena Radeva – founder of Bulgarian Illustration website and winner of the national Hristo Danov award.
