A Sip of Colour at the Biennial of Illustration 2020
While the coronavirus pandemic has seriously disrupted the art calendar of many a cultural institution in Bulgaria, the Biennial of Illustration returns for its second edition aims to offer an escape, short as it is, from our fears and discontent during these tough times.
The exhibition will be on view from 17. November until mid-January 2021 at the Triangular Tower of Serdica,Sofia Regional History Museum, and will present illustrations by 194 Bulgarian authors from the country and abroad following a selection of more than 600 works by a jury, including Nikoleta Gologanova, Radostina Nikolova, Stoyan Atanasov and Milena Radeva. Entry is free.
‘We are proud that we’ve managed to organize yet again the Biennial of Illustration thanks to the support of all our colleagues and partners. Despite the lack of funding and the insecurity we are forced to live in, the enthusiasm to make this event happen and showcase the creativity and the artistry of the Bulgarian illustrators regardless of their age and years of experience, the sector they work in or the techniques and style they use was huge’, said Milena Radeva, founder of Bulgarian Illustration website. ‘This year’s edition enjoys a double surge in the number of participating artists and submitted works, while the themes are so varied that every visitor will certainly find his piece of calm and, hopefully, hope and inspiration.’
Three authors will be awarded in the ‘Realized Work’, ‘Unrealized Work’ and ‘Lifetime Achievement’ categories at the official opening on 17. November, Tuesday, 6 p.m., and visitors can acquire a catalogue of the exhibition illustrations to colour their everyday lives.
