Four years ago Bulgarian Illustraion website extends its first invitation to the Bulgarian illustrators scattered across the world, bringing back to life the sole forum for illustration in the country since 1990 and providing artists with a room for expression regardless of their education, age or profession.

‘A total of 348 authors participated in the first two editions of the Biennial and submitted some 1000 works of art which turned the forum into an artistic platform for colleagues with independent thinking, style and vision how this specific visual form looks nowadays. We are confident that the Biennial’s third edition will break the should-and-should-not cliché and will illustrate to the general public – regardless of its education, age and profession, the huge creative diapason of the Bulgarian artists in the field,’ said Milena Radeva, illustrator, organizer and founder of the Bulgarian Illustration website and publishing house.

Biennial of Illustration 2022 is organized in partnership with Regional History Museum Sofia and with the financial support of Natural Culture Fund of Bulgaria. Traditionally, the forum’s third edition will hand awards in the application categories, namely:

• not realized/unpublished works, and
• realized/published works

, as well as award a prize for lifelong achievement.

Artists can submit up to 3 works. There are no restrictions regarding used media, technique, style, theme and purpose of the illustrations as long as they hold the copyright on them and the works were created in the last two years. The application period deadline is September 30, 2022. The selected works will be displayed in a November exhibition and in a richly illustrated catalogue.
