Open Call: Beglika’s First International Art Residency

July 28 – August 7, 2025 | Golyam Beglik Reservoir, Rhodope Mountains
In a world where humans are increasingly distanced from their natural environment, Beglika Fest — one of Bulgaria’s most iconic festivals — extends an open invitation to participate in its first international art residency, set in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains.
The residency is a natural extension of the 15th anniversary edition of the festival and will bring together artists from around the world to create land art installations and site-specific performances in harmony with the natural and cultural landscape of Golyam Beglik Reservoir. Participants will explore how their art responds to nature while leaving a minimal ecological footprint, crafting multi-layered narratives across space and time. They will also have the opportunity to weave their works in situ with installations and performances by fellow artists.
Application guidelines
The residency organizers are accepting applications until May 15, 2025 from individual artists — painters, sculptors, stage designers, visual artists, dancers, choreographers, actors, and others, as well as art collectives and organizations. While experience in land art and site-specific installations is recommended, it is not mandatory.
Between July 28 and August 7, 2025 selected participants will create and live immersed in the wilderness. The festival will provide tents and camping equipment, a shared kitchen with electricity access at designated hours, vegetarian catering for the entire stay, materials budget and technical support from the festival’s team and volunteers.
Selection criteria
Projects will be evaluated by Beglika’s arts committee and festival guests based on their artistic value, originality, feasibility, and the ecological sustainability of materials and creative methods.
The final selection will be announced by the end of May on the festival’s website www.beglika.org.
Create. Play. Be!
The project is carried out with the financial support of the National Culture Fund.
