Between September 1 and September 30, Bulgarian illustrators living both in the country and abroad can apply to participate in the fourth edition of the national Biennial of Illustration in two categories. The first category includes “Realized Works” for external projects such as illustrations for books, advertisements, physical products, online platforms, etc., as well as works that are yet to be published. In the “Unrealized Works” category will be accepted sketches, drawings, momentary inspirations, analytical illustrations and similar works that are entirely personal creations.

After a long pause of nearly thirty years, the first edition of the Biennial was held in 2018 thanks to Milena Radeva, creator of the “Bulgarian Illustration” website, with the aim of providing Bulgarian illustrators of all generations with an artistic platform. It showcases current trends in the field and a wide range of creative ideas and solutions, allowing participants to compare their personal works, as well as offering business organizations the opportunity to connect with actively working artists. Last but not least, the national Biennial of Illustration leaves a significant mark on Bulgaria’s cultural memory through its catalog which future generations and art historians can refer to.

The fourth edition of the forum has no specific theme, allowing authors to present their best works created over the past two years. There are no restrictions regarding the media and expressive means, which include watercolor, tempera, pastels, pencils, ink, collage, digital techniques, photography, printmaking (linocut, etching, lithography, siligraphy), three-dimensional sculptures from various materials, and many others.
